![]() The 49/51 rule is an area that is often questioned by potential owners of kit aircraft, and the way we address this is that the owner of the aircraft is the ultimately responsible individual for that aircraft. However, with the level of sophistication and performance characteristics of many kitplanes today, the owner needs to make judicious decisions on whether or not there are areas he or she is not confident in building. We believe in assisting the owner in producing a safe, beautiful aircraft that will perform reliably for many flight hours to come. Assistance to the owner allows the aircraft to be enjoyed before the excitement of building and creating alone become nothing but hard work. This is often what we are called upon to do. Our relationship with the FAA is a very good one. The FAA understands that we are helping the owner produce a safer aircraft than if the owner attempts to build it for the first time alone. The owner is responsible for the aircraft and signs a document to verify this. Your involvement in the project is very important! The bottom line is and has always been to produce a SAFE aircraft. The F.A.A. and Phoenix Composites, Inc. both clearly understand this and work together with the builder/owner to achieve success in this area. See "8 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW WHEN SHOPPING FOR BUILDER ASSISTANCE" for further advice on what to look for in a builder to assist you. |
